אסיר ישראלי באקוודור אשר נידון ל-11 שנות מאסר, שוחרר לאחרונה לאחר ריצוי שלוש שנים בלבד, באמצעות סיוע משולב של הדיין החיד"ו וייס מאנטוורפן מהדיינים הבכירים בעולם החרדי (מחבר שו"ת "ויען דוד") והמיליונר סאני קהאן ממיאמי, מבעלי חברת קרסנט הייטס אשר התבקש לסייע ע"י עו"ד מרדכי ציבין המייצג את האסיר ובסיועו של ר' צבי ביורסקי מניו-יורק, אברך מאנ"ש המנהל את סניף אל"ף באיזור ניו-יורק.

המדובר באסיר ישראלי אשר נולד לאחר שאביו הלוחם נפל במלחמת יום הכיפורים וזכה לאחר נפילתו בעיטור גבורה. הדיין וייס אשר כידוע עוסק, בין היתר, בפדיון שבויים ברחבי העולם ובימים אלה, הוא מרכז את כל הטיפול בפרשת הבחורים ביפן, נפגש בעבר עם נשיא איראן הקודם, חתאמי, על מנת לאתר 11 יהודים אשר נכלאו ונעלמו באיראן ועד היום לא נודעו עקבותיהם.

לדיין וייס, מחשובי חסידי סטמאר, קשר מיוחד לחב"ד. אביו פרופ' ידוע למתימטיקה באוניברסיטת מנצ'סטר, דאג להביא במיוחד את הרב משה בנימין קפלן ז"ל (אביו של השליח הרה"ח לייבל קפלן ז"ל), כמלמד לדיין. כמו כן, פנה הרב בן-ציון שמטוב ז"ל, מדי פעם בביקוריו במנצ'סטר והעביר מסר מהרבי לאביו של הדיין, בו התבקש כי יקרב סטודנטים באוניברסיטה, עליהם היתה לו השפעה רבה.

הדיין וייס תרם בעבר סכומים נכבדים לשלוחים אשר עסקו בפדיון שבויים, ביניהם לשליח חזקי ליפשיץ בנפאל וכן לשליחים אחרים במזרח הרחוק.

This Israeli prisoner was born after his father fell in the Yom Kipur  war and received after his fall a badge of bravery. Dayan Weis who is involved in pidyon shvuyim around the world and in these days he is coordinating the efforts in the matter of the bochrim in Japan, met in the past with the former Iranian president, Khatami, in order to find 11 Jews who were jailed and disappeared in Iran and until this days their whereabouts are not know.

Dayan Weis, among the most important Satmer Chsidim, has a special connection to Chabad. His father, a known Professor in the university of Manchester, took special care to bring Rabbi Leibel Kaplan Z”L (father of the shliach  Rabbi Moshe Binyomin Kaplan Z”L).  Likewise, Rabbi Bentziyon Shemtov Z”L on his visits to Manchester would occasionally bring a message from the Rebbe to the Dayna’s father, in which he was asked to mekarev students in the university, on which he had great influence.

Dayan Weis donated in the past vast amounts to shluchim who were involved in pidyon shvuyim, among others the shliach Chezki Lifshits in Nepal and also to other shluchim in the far east.
