Rabbi Binyomin Klein, mazkir of the Rebbe, led the Chicago Anash Farbrengen on Thursday night, or Hey Teves. Hosted by Congregation Bnei Ruven and sponsored by Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois Rabbi Klein held the three hundred assembled men and women spellbound as he related miracles and mofsim from his four decades of service to the Rebbe.

Rabbi Baruch Hertz, Rav of Congregation Bnei Ruven chaired the event and introduced a video of the dancing and celebration from Hey Teves 5747. Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, regional director of Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois, shared some memories of Hey Teves and then introduced Rabbi Klein who related the background story of Hey Teves and then shared many memorable episodes with the Rebbe.

Dr. Ira Weiss, the Rebbe’s personal physician, was a special guest speaker as well. Dr. Weiss recalled his role in the Hey Teves story, testifying on behalf of Agudas Chassidei Chabad assuring that the Rebbe would not be deposed. Dr. Weiss told of following the Rebbe’s advice in thoroughly preparing for his courtroom appearance. The doctor spent hours in the Northwestern University law library readying his responses to the tough questions he certainly would face. The first point of information he gathered was the his authority to attend to the Rebbe in a state which he is not licensed to practice medicine. Photocopying the relevant legal code Dr. Weiss surprised the interrogating lawyer when he produced the evidence of his authority to advise on the Rebbe’s health care and render an opinion vis-à-vis the Rebbe being deposed despite being licensed out of state, thus derailing the opposition’s strategy and insuring didan notzach!

After the formal program Rabbi Klein stayed to farbreng. The tables were pushed together and the remaining men huddled together as Rabbi Klein shared stories that only he was privy to. Dr. Weiss and Rabbi Klein shared some memories of the Hey Teves saga and welcomed the crowd into their special relationship with the Rebbe and Rebbetzin.
